Illinois
[White Co. I found Wilkey, Maxwell (538) as a reference with 1 male over 21
and 4 others. White County then included part of Jefferson Co., Hamilton Co.,
and White Co. He was in both the state census for Jefferson Co. of 1820 and
the Federal Census of 1820--this note from Norton, Margaret Cross, Illinois
Census Returns 1810-1818 (Gen. Pub. Co., Springfield, Ill., 1935)].
I found written on cards in the Illinois Archives of Springfield, Ill., and
in these forms:
1818 Census 420 Wilkey, Maxey LC
1818 Census Wilkey, Maxey 420 p 113 of Jefferson County
5 Females under 18
A handwritten note on the back notes =
. Came Oct 22, 1816, with mother and wife and child. Older brother of Carter
Wilkey. p. 123. War of 1812 at Battle of Thames. Married Miss Caldwell and came
to Illinois in fall of 1816. 18 children, 12 sons and 6 daughters p. 124.
. Maxwell
1818 Census 420 Wilkey, Maxey LC
Commissioned lieutenant in the Jefferson County militia, Aug. 24, 1819. Fact
found in Executive Record, 1818-1832 V1 1 p 14
[[I found a note in L.E. Robinson, History of Illinois (N.Y.: American Book
Co.1926) which probably explains why Maxey came to Illinois from Georgia. "In
1821-1823 attention had been directed to the Military Tract, and there was a
great rush of settlers into this rich region which the government had given
as bounty to the soldiers of the War of 1812. Much of it had not been claimed
by those to whom it was given, and had to be sold for taxes." p. 99. kjw]]
Facts found in Illinois Archives in 1987.
420 Wilkey, Hester LC Census 1820 p 113 of Jefferson county

Daughters married
Abel Allen
Jacob Weldon
Robinson
Dick Wilkey married Miss Kirkendale [see 1860. Possibly Maxey's, Carter's, and
