The sixth week of the Diary starts.........

Feb. 1, Sunday
Dear Diary:
Audrey and Clyde came this morning and are staying all day. Clyde took Beulah back to Dalton and before he got back Flora(1) and Archie and Cecil Mae(2) came. Dad decided to go home with them for he has to go to Madisonville tomorrow to be on the jury and he was afraid if it rained tonight he couldn't get there tomorrow. Aunt Cynthia came a few minutes ago to stay with us until Dad gets back.

Feb. 2nd, Monday
Dear Diary
Dany's folks have been here this afternoon and we have all been playing cards. Aunt Cynthia enjoys playing too. Today is Groundhog Day and the ground hog will see his shadow because it is a pretty day. It has been pretty weather for a couple of weeks and the roads are good.

Feb.3rd, Tuesday
Dear Diary

Mother and Aunt Cynthia went down to Dany's and I went down to see Ruby Dockrey but neither was at home. Dad called a few minutes ago and said Clyde might bring him home. We don't know what to do with ourselves when Dad is away. We don't do much work. Pres. Woodrow Wilson died on this day in 1924.

Feb 4th, Wednesday
Dear Diary:
Mrs. Logan ( Tommy Logan's wife ) and Lean ( Baily Franklin's wife ) have been here this afternoon also Clara Lantaff and Lu Ella Coffman. Artie is washing clothes for Mother today. Mrs Mathews has been here this afternoon. Clyde brought Dad home last night and Dany's folks came last night.

Feb. 5th, Thursday
Dear Diary:
We have a little calf. I baked some raisin pies this morning. Old Doctor Setzer came by on his horse this morning and Mother went out and talked to him about me. I think because she got some medicine for me to take. It sure isn't good. There was funeral down here today but Mother and I didn't go. Aunt Cynthia did. Audrey F. ( Dany's largest girl ) and Artie have been here.

My grandmother, Mary Ann McGregor Franklin, died Feb, 5th, 1929. ( 81 years old at death ). She lived 5 years and one day longer than Grandpa. Many memories of Grandma stands out. I remember when she used to go out the back kitchen door when it was getting dusk to put her head down on the ground to listen for Old Morton's ( horse ) footsteps coming up Lick Creek hill. My sister Bonnie was riding him to high School at Dawson nine ( 9 ) miles away. Lick Creek was about a mile and 1/2 from home but Ma could tell if she was getting near.

I also remember several days before she died, when mother went out to the stables to milk the cows, that Ma got up out of the bed, went to her old trunk and got the large black money bag she usually wore around her waist under her dress. She took a dollar bill out and gave it to me and then got back in bed. Several days later she died. The funeral was in the parlor of our house. A group from Dawson sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and she had to be carried to the graveyard about 1/2 mile because of a deep, deep snow on the ground.

Feb 6th, Friday
Dear Diary:
It is raining now. Aunt Cynthia, Mother and I went down to Dany's to play cards and then Artie came. We played cards awhile and then came home. Aunt Cynthia got a chance to go home and as she was aiming to go tomorrow, she just went today. Artie and Finis will have to stay with us tonight. Dany's folks came a while tonight.

Feb. 7th, Saturday
Dear Diary:
It has been cloudy most all day. Wish it would come a good rain. We have been down to Dany's this morning. Dad got home about 1 o'clock and is now gone over to the Clark Place. Mrs. Betty Lantaff is going to stay all night with us.
