The fifteenth week of the Diary starts.........

April 5th, Sunday
Dear Diary:
Happy Easter! Clyde came this morning and brought some groceries and he and Uncle Glover and Aunt Ella are staying all day. We had a dandy dinner. Aunt Cynthia is up there. Then Chester and his folks came, and Mother, Aunt Ella and Aunt Cynthia came back here. Think they going home in a few minutes. Bill Wyatt and Buster have gone to take the girls back to Dalton.

{ The following is from a note attached to the above page of Mary Ruth's Diary }

Grandpa Franklin died on Feb. 4th. 1924, exactly 7 years ago. He was 79. I can remember him so well. He used to give me nichols and dimes to go up to the store to buy candy. Nearly every day I would walk with him down through the orchid to the very back holding my hand. He would explain the different kinds of apples, answer my questions with so much love and understanding. He was called Judge Riley ( Name, John Riley Franklin ). Couples would by on horseback and he would marry them. There are many marriages on record in the files of the Hopkins Co. Courthouse that he performed.

Aprill 6th, Monday
Dear Diary:
I haven't done much today. Mother and Dad have been working in the Orchard cleaning it up and repairing fences. Buster is going back this afternoon. Dany's' folks came this afternoon also Artie and we played cards. I wrote to Carrie and Ken this morning.

April 7th, Tuesday
Dear Diary:
Aunt Cynthia came this morning and is spending the day with us. Artie and I went up to Mrs. Betty's to get a few turnip greens to finish out a mess. I got a few in our garden. Then Artie and I went to Mary Jewell's as Aunt Cynthia went home. Mother put up another quilt in her frames but hasn't worked much on it today.

April 8, Wednesday
Dear Diary:
Dad and Finis started spraying the orchard this morning and ran out of spray so Dad has gone to Madisonville this afternoon after some. Gothard drove for him and Artie and Aunt Cynthia went with them. Aunt Cynthia is going to stay a few days with Dempsy and Rosy. Mother has been quiltingsome and we have played cards.

April 9th, Thursday
Dear Diary:
Dad and Finis are spraying the orchard again. They put the big barrels of spray mixed with water in the wagon and go down the rows of trees. The ordhard is so beautiful all in bloom. Apple trees white and peach trees pink. It is so peaceful walking through the orchard. So quite except for the buzzing of the bees and at the back of the orchard on the right side Dad has a hog pen. Every day he takes slop to the hogs. I can remember before my grandfather died he took a daily walk tothe back of the orchard. Sometime I would walk with him. Often he would have me stop and he would continue to the back fence, face the woods on the other side and attend to nature but thats going back when I was wee, wee child. After Dad and Finis finished spraying the orchard today, they are going to plant a garden. I am going over to Uncle Glover's after diner to get some paint brushes. I am going up aways to see Francis too. Mother got her quilt out today. Mrs. Betty is staying all night.
