May 3rd, Sunday
Dear Diary:
Nola and folks came this morning about 9:30. They all went down to Romas'
and Logan's this afternoon but Nola Ree. Nola Ree is going to stay a week
or two with us. Clyde called a while ago. He was aiming to come after
me tonight but he won't now because Nola Ree is here.
May 5th, Monday
Dear Diary:
I wrote to Buster this morning and told him how the election turned out.
We got a letter from Lee and Lillian. Nola Ree and I have been playing
around all day. We went down to Dany's where Mother was awhile. Archie
Fox came today and finished painting the house. He has started painting
on the roof now.
May 6th Tuesday
Dear Diary:
Archie Fox came to paint on the roof today but it begin to rain and he
went home. It has turned cooler and Mother made a fire in the grate. We
have been painting some in the house and moving and changing the bed steads
or other wise cleaning up. I went up to Artie's this afternoon for the
first time since Sun. Nola Ree has bought 2 nickels worth of candy every
day since she's been here. Tuck always gave his kids lots of money to
buy candy.
May 6th, Wednesday
Dear Diary:
Nola Ree hasn't got her clothes yet. Mother, Dad, Gothard and Clara went
to Madisonville this morning but it begin to rain and they came back about
noon. Dad stayed at town and came back with Mr. Jack Fox. We went down
to Dany's this afternoon. I think it is cooler today. We got a letter
from Carrie and Ken saying they weren't coming may 15th.
May 7th, Thursday
Dear Diary:
Mother and Nola Ree went up to Mrs. Betty's this afternoon. And I went
up to Artie's. They also went down to Danies' for awhile. Dad went over
to the Clark Place. He's weighing hay to sell. I read a novel clear through
while up at Artie's. I have read several of Horatio Alger books such as
"Struggling Upward" and "Rags to Riches". Mrs. Betty
is staying all night with us. We went down to Dany's awhile after supper.

May 8th, Friday
Dear Diary:
Archie came today and finished painting the roof. Mother got a box of
candy from Bonnie today for Sunday is Mother's Day. Buster wrote and also
sent one of his pictures. Mother, Nola Ree and I went over to Aunt Ella's
this afternoon. Mother took some goods for her to make Nola Ree a dress.
My first sickness came on me today. A month from tomorrow I will be 16
years old. I started having pains in my side coming back from Aunt Ella's
climbing the long hill. There is a hill to climb coming back. Now I know
what that bitter medicine is for.
May 9th, Saturday
Dear Diary:
We went down to Danies' this afternoon. I didn't sleep so well last night.
I got up this morning and after awhile went back to bed. My belly ( pardon
me ) hurt so bad. But I'm feeling better this afternoon and we have been
playing cards down at Dany's. Mrs. Betty came down there while we were
there. Mother got a new dress and a pair of hoses from Pauline and Carrie
sent her two dollars for Mother's Day.
