Week 30 of the Diary starts.........

July 19th, Sunday
Dear Diary:
Floyd called and said he was coming down and he did. He stayed until after dinner and brought us a watermellon. Carrie and Ken got here about 4 o'clock but Floyd had gone before they got here. He said he would be back Tuesday if it didn't rain thi. Carrie and Ken brought Beulah and me a nice pair of pajamas. They always give us such nice presents.

July 20th, Monday
Dear Diary:
It has been raining a little or trying too. We thought we would go to Madisonville this afternoon but it was too hot to ride in the rumble seat(1) and looked like rain and we are glad we didn't go because it did rain later in the afternoon. Finis' granddaughter and Artie's sister went home. Their folks came after them. Artie has been helping some and we have been playing cards some. Ken is a regular card player. Beats every one.

July 21st, Tuesday
Dear Diary:
It came a good rain yesterday afternoon and last night. We were mighty glad. Carrie got her some jelly made today. We have played cards this afternoon. Clyde and Audrey were aiming to come down but it rained so much the roads are slick. Floyd meant to come too and bring his girl but guess they won't now.

July 22nd, Wednesday
Dear Diary:
Mother fixed diner to take to the ones working over on the Clark Place. Dad and Ken took it. We have just got back from Madisonville. Carrie, Ken, Mother, Beulah and Ii. Mother didn't get out of the car. We got us a Cocola and an ice cream sandwich. Think Floyd and his girl came last night but Beulah and I went to Church. We are also going tonight. Louella is coming to go with us. Artie had been making some jam for Carrie Mae. Mother, Ken, Carrie and Pups have been playing cards this afternoon. We got a letter from Edna and Rich saying they were coming Friday night or Saturday morning.

July 24th, Friday
Dear Diary:
Mother is boiling a ham today....

{ Insert by DCW. Mary Ruth omits the next few days.}

Footnotes: Rumble Seat or Mother-In-Law Seat. Usually found on Coupes. Instead of the trunk opening the way we think of today it open and folded back from the top. Inside were cushioned seats and back. It was impossible to talk to the driver and you were open to the elements. If it rained there was no cover.
