Mrs. Margie Orten, 65, Fatally Injured By Car
Occurred Near Home On KY. 109; Funeral Services Held On Monday
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Margie Victoria Or ten,
65-year-old resident of Star Route, who was fatally injured when struck b y a
car last Saturday afternoon. The services were held at New Hope Church i n
Christian Country. The Rev. Woodrow Morris officiated and the burial w as in
McKinight Cemetery. Mrs. Orten was apparently killed instantly when hi t by
a car on KY, 109 near her home about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. State Trooper R .N.
Fergus on said the woman was going across the highway to Casteel's Groc ery
when the accident occurred. He listed Charles M. Matheny, 22, also of S tar
Rote, as the driver of the auto which struck Mrs. Orten. The trooper sa id
witnesses told him Matheny swerved to the left in an attempt to miss th e
woman and almost collided with an oncoming car. The woman struck the ri ght
front of the car, hitting the windshield post and windshield. No arrest s
were made. Trooper Ferguson said members of the family were in the hou se
nearby but did not see the accident. Mrs. Orten was born December 22, 1 897,
in Christian County. She was a member of Gospel Tabernacle. She is sur vived
by husband, Jim Orten; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Hoard, Star Route an d M
rs. Dextel Hoard, Route 2; six sons, Melvin Orten, Route 2; Carl Orten,
city; Forest Orten, R ichard Lee Orten, and Lawson Ray Orten, all of Ro ute
1; and Johnnie Orten, Crofton; a sister , Mrs. Lula Harris, Star Route; 2 0
grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
