A timber cutting accident in Pennyrile Forest State Park took the life o f
James William Orten , 73, Star Route, about 9:15 a.m. Thursday, July 21 . A
large tree after being cut fell into a nother tree; it later fell on Or ten,
killing him instantly. The Christisn County coroner investigated the
accident, It was said the accident occurred only a few miles from the s pot
where Orten's wife was sturck by a car and killled a few years ago. Fun eral
services were held Saturday afternoon at New Hope Holiness Church in
Christian County. The Rev. Woodrow Morris officiated. Burial was in the
McKnight Cemetery in Christian County. Survivors include two daughters, M rs.
Dextel Hoard, city, and Mrs. Mildred Hamby, Hopkinsville: six sons, Mel vin
Orten , Richard Lee Orten and Carl Loman Orten, all of this city; Lawso n Ray
Orten and Johnnie Orten, both of Crofton, and Forrest Orten, Sturgis; t wo
sisters, Mrs. Mattie McKnight, city, and Mrs. Annie Cato, Ilsley; a bro ther,
Charlie Orten, Hopkinsville; 24 grandchildren; three step-children; and
three great-grandchildren.
