In the name of God, Amen---------

I, Nicolas Bishop of the County Craven in the State of South Carolina, S hoemaker, Being in perfect health of Body and of perfect mind and memor y Thanks be given unto God yet Calling unto mind the mortality of my Bo dy and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die Do make and o rdain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and fi rst of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God t hat gave it and my Body I Recommend to the Earth to Be buried in a Dece nt and Christian manner at the Discretion of my Executors; Nothing Doub ting but at the General Resurrection. I shall Receive the same again b y the Almighty power of God And as touching Such Worldly Estate Wherewi th it has pleased God to Bless me in this Life I give Devise and Dispos e of the same in the following manner and form-----
first I give and bequeath to Hannah my Dearly Beloved wife the third pa rt of my personal Estate and besides her maintainance to be levied of m y Lands During her Widowhood-----Also I give and bequeath to my well Be loved son Henry five pounds to be levied out of my Estate----Also I giv e and bequeath to Dorcas my well Beloved Daughter twenty pounds to be R aised and Levied out of my Estate---Also I give and bequeath unto Willi am my well Beloved son one hundred pounds to be Raised and Levied out o f my Estate----Also I give and bequeath unto Hannah my Well Beloved Dau ghter a young Bay mare of two years old and saddle and Briddle one feat her Bed and furniture Likewise one hundred pounds to be Raised and Levi ed out of my Estate----Also I Give and Bequeath unto James my well Belo ved son one hundred pounds to be Raised and Levied out of my Estate---A lso I give and bequeath unto Nicolas my well Beloved son my Lands he pa ying therefore unto John my well Beloved son two hundred pounds when he a rrives at the age of twinty one years----and the Remainder of my person al Estate for to be divided equally amongst my seven Children-----Also m y beloved sons William and Nicholas I Constitute and ordain the sole Ex ecutors of this my Last will and testament and I Do hereby utterly Disa llow Revoke and Dis? all and every other former testament wills Legacie s bequests and Executors by me in any wise before named willed and bequ ested Ratifying and confirming this and No other to be my Last will and t estament In witness thereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this E leventh Day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred a nd seventy Eight-----signed sealed published pronounced and Declared by t he said Nicolas Bishop as his last will and testament in the presence o f us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunt o Subscribed our names.

This, I believe, is the will of our Wm. Sr.'s father. Wm. Sr. being th e father of Wm. Jr. who married Isabella Sims. I've never come across a d ocument where the Williams used the titles Sr. and Jr.

By the way, I am leaning toward this family being of German origin - a s urprise to me. I've got some leads on that too.

The continued naming of daughters "Dorcas" is a really good clue for th is being our family.
