Dr. Kavanaugh's health education efforts as a producer-director include s pecials for national television, within the CBS 60Minutes and ABC 20-20 s eries and as a national syndicated programming with such personlites as J ohn Wayne, Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, Candice Bergan, Rod Steiger and o thers. The subject matter of these specials has covered such areas as p ollution, human ecology, drug abuse, cancer, aboration, and emergency m edicine. His work for television has been honored with 13 Emmy's and mo re than 50 International Film Festival Awards. Dr. Kavanaugh's internat iona programs number some 250 in 70 countries of the world and focus ma inly in population dynamics and child health and special education. He s pent eight years with ABC-TV in Chicago and New York as a Producer-Dire ctorof local and network programming, was Operations Manager of the Com munications Corporation.
Dr. Kavanaugh received his Bachelor's Degree from Lake Forest College, d id graduate study in communications from the Union Institute, specializ ing in the field of health information packaging and dissemination. He h as taught at the GeorgeWashington University, Columbia, and served as g uest lecturer at the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at S yracuse.He continues to serve on the faculty at the George Washington M edical Center, The Union Institute Granuate School and the Walden Unive rsity Institute for Advance Studies.
Dr. Kavanaugh has been a member of the Directors Guild of America, was e lected Secretary of the National Academy of Television Arts and Science s, and President of the Council on Nontheatrical Events.
